The Tree

Zoey Avery
Multiple arms rejoicing and embracing
…A ritual with the sun
from which energy it releases...
Motivation of innocence,
A creator of life-force…
Coloring and patterning the landscape
Branched hands at one with the sky
Sheltering all life…
Without judgment or retribution
.....a tree in the moment…

The Tall Ship, Me and the Sea

Masts and decks creak against the hull of the largest Bark on Earth.
Blocks strain and compete with the forces of Nature
Cared-for canvas sails flap and burst with wind-energy
Their mended tears triumph against excessive gusts.
A great Hull (our home and womb) carves the ocean surface...
—cutting through smooth undulating glistening waters—textured like molten glass...
The ship’s Bow-sprit battles the immense weight of ocean as we glide upon the wind...

Gulls and dolphins greet our journey as we all move in harmony with the seascape...
The mighty ocean expands and contracts like the lungs and breath of an enormous Sea God--exhaling the magical primal sound of water meeting the sky.
The mystical universe of water churns majestically around our hull.

At night upon the quiet deck the sky opens up with cosmic glittering stars from infinity to the flat ocean horizon and within the mercury colored water in a full moon...

As I near sleep lulled by the soft rhythmic motion of ocean quakes I wonder about the new lands that I will see...
The sails of our ship have delivered me to the richness of diverse cultures—
Toward a greater understanding...
As the ship rocks me to a meditative and contemplative state, my thoughts are within a tall ship in the middle of the ocean, the ocean a path to many lands—I am nearing something else besides land...
understanding our diverse Planet as a sea connecting one Humanity.
